Care & Instruction
Care & Instruction
Firewood Storage
Proper storage is essential to preserving the quality and performance of your firewood.
- Store in a Dry Place: Keep firewood in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent moisture absorption. Excess moisture can cause wood to burn less efficiently and produce more smoke.
- Elevate from the Ground: Stack firewood off the ground using a pallet or firewood rack. This helps to keep the wood dry and prevents it from absorbing moisture from the ground.
- Cover the Top: If storing outdoors, cover the top of your woodpile with a waterproof tarp to protect it from rain and snow. Leave the sides open for ventilation to prevent mold and rot.
- Keep Away from Walls and Structures: Store firewood at least a few inches away from walls or buildings to allow for proper airflow around the stack.
Burning Instructions
To maximize heat output and minimize smoke, please follow these guidelines when burning Aurelien Villaret firewood.
- Use Seasoned Firewood: We provide well-seasoned firewood that is ready to burn. Avoid burning freshly cut or "green" wood, as it contains excess moisture, which can create excess smoke and creosote.
- Start with Small Kindling: Begin your fire with smaller pieces of wood or kindling to build a hot, steady base. Once the base is established, add larger logs gradually.
- Burn in a Well-Ventilated Space: Ensure that your fireplace or wood stove has proper ventilation to allow the fire to burn efficiently and reduce the risk of smoke buildup indoors.
- Do Not Burn Treated or Painted Wood: Only use untreated, natural wood. Burning treated wood or other materials can release harmful chemicals and damage your fireplace or stove.
Safety Precautions
To enjoy your fire safely, please keep these safety tips in mind.
- Keep Flammable Items Away: Maintain a safe distance between firewood and any flammable objects. Ensure that logs are fully contained within the fireplace or fire pit.
- Never Leave Fire Unattended: Always supervise a lit fire and ensure it is fully extinguished before leaving the area or going to bed.
- Use Fireplace Tools and Screens: Use proper tools for handling firewood and a protective screen to prevent sparks from escaping.
Eco-Friendly Disposal of Ashes
Once your fire has burned down, follow these steps to dispose of ashes responsibly.
- Allow Ashes to Cool: Wait at least 24 hours before handling ashes to ensure they are completely cool.
- Store in a Metal Container: Place cooled ashes in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid, keeping it away from combustible materials.
- Consider Using Ash as Fertilizer: Ash can be used in gardens to improve soil quality. Spread sparingly, as too much ash can alter soil pH.
